oleic acid content, making it an excellent ingredient in various industrial
applications such as engine lubricants, oleochemicals, and hydraulic fluids.
Beyond industrial use, this oil is also taken orally to help prevent heart
disease, lower cholesterol, and may even aid in the prevention of certain
cancers.
Arachis
Oil IP, BP, and USP (Indian, British, and United States Pharmacopeia)
Arachis oil, also known as peanut oil, is extracted from the
seeds of Arachis hypogaea, a flowering plant of the pea family native
to South America. Common names include groundnut, earth nut, and goober. This
plant grows well in warm climates with full sunlight, thriving in sandy, loamy,
and clay-rich soils. It does not tolerate shade.
The oil contains approximately 56% natural oil content and 30% protein and is a rich source of vitamins E, K, and B-complex and various minerals.
History
of Arachis Oil
The use of Arachis oil dates back to the early 1800s. The French
began experiments in 1802 in the region of Landes, Aquitaine, using peanut oil
for various applications. To support this, peanut cultivation was encouraged in
Senegal, leading to a consistent supply. By 1830, the oil was being
commercially used in Marseille, especially for soap production.
Extraction
