Grapeseed
Oil as per USP Grade (United States Pharmacopeia)
Grapeseed Oil is obtained from the seeds of Vitis vinifera, a species of
wine grape belonging to the Vitaceae family. Native to Central Europe and Southwestern
Asia, this climbing plant can reach up to 32 metres in height. It bears
alternate, palmately lobed leaves and small berries known as grapes.
Historical
Significance:
While North American grape species were part of the
Native American diet, they weren’t useful for winemaking. Grapeseed oil,
however, dates back over 6000 years and is mentioned as an “ancient healer” in
the Bible. Traditional remedies, including those noted in the Book of Daniel,
reference this powerful oil in healing rituals.
Industrial Uses:
Grapeseed oil is produced from the by-products of the wine
and berry industries. Although the oil yield from grape seeds is low, it is
classified as a minor vegetable oil (FAO, 1992). Common applications include: Salad
dressings & marinades, Baking & frying, Skincare & cosmetics, and Hair
care products.
Extraction Method (How We Make It):
Extracted by the Cold Pressed Method from grape seeds (Vitis
vinifera), this oil retains its purity and nutritional profile.
Chemical Composition:
Grapeseed oil is primarily composed of beneficial fatty
acids: Linolenic acid, Oleic acid, Palmitic acid, Stearic acid, Alpha-linolenic
acid, Palmitoleic acid. It also contains tocopherols (Vitamin E), phytosterols,
and antioxidants.
Properties:
- Color:
Light green
- Odor:
Mild, slightly nutty
- Texture:
Lightweight and non-greasy
Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties make it highly suitable for use in cosmetics, hair care, and dermatological formulations.
