Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) is a fragrant perennial herb, a natural hybrid of spearmint (M. spicata) and water mint (M. aquatica), belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Native to Europe and the Middle East, it is now cultivated across Asia, North America, and Europe and was first grown commercially in England. In traditional British herbal pharmacopoeia, peppermint has long been used for conditions such as intestinal colic, gas, morning sickness, and menstrual discomfort.

Extraction & Applications

- Widely used as a flavouring agent in foods and beverages and as a key ingredient in shampoos, conditioners, soaps, and cosmetic products.

Botanical & Historical Context
